STARTING POINT |
|
|
The Spiritual Leadership Institute was founded in 1996 by Memorial Hermann
Healthcare System in Houston, Texas, with the guidance of then-President Dan
S. Wilford, and is a non-profit, tax-exempt affiliate of Memorial Hermann.
The impetus for this endeavor was the view that conventional management
methods in organizational and community leadership were failing to address
the importance of a foundation of spiritual values in healthcare and other
workplace environments.
Spiritual leadership is focused on the primary need of values and spirit for
meaningful personal and organizational growth. The Spiritual Leadership
Institute frames the discussion of values through the concepts of ethics,
trust, vision and spirituality. Organizations that commit to these concepts
attract the right people and give them a clear purpose when striving to
achieve greatness.

|
GOALS |
|
|
An important goal of the Institute is to take the term spiritual beyond
limiting stereotypes that diminish its power. The lack of strong values and
the pervasive “emptiness” of work experienced by so many individuals in the
workplace are detriments to the human spirit and hold broad implications
regarding the quality and excellence of production and life in general.
By advancing the concept of spiritual leadership, the Institute is committed
to revitalizing organizational development with challenging insights,
creative options and wise strategies that promote productivity, fulfilling
work and inspired leadership. The experience objectives of the Institute
focus on the development potential for individuals, organizations and
community as follows:
-
To establish the context for understanding the idea of spiritual leadership
-
To provide applications of spiritual leadership in organizational and
personal environments
-
To explore how spiritual leadership can become a catalyst for change in
personal, orginizational, and community life

INSTITUTE ACTIVITIES |
|
|
SLI provides leadership development programs for all levels of employees
both within Houston and in other areas of the country. Our approach is to
focus on the value development of an individual and the effect these values
have on successful organizational development. Values include respect,
ethics, honesty, trust, vision and many others.
SLI provides several services including: Assisting organizations in
developing a value focused environment,
conferences on spirituality in the workplace and
leadership tools. The SLI experience provides an opportunity for
organizations and participants to gain an insight into value development and
encouragement within the corporate environment. These programs are available
to any company and their employees. Not only do we talk about values and how
to incorporate them into everyday life, but we also have a validated method
of measuring values using a profile instrument that measures the strength of
a person’s judgment capacity based on their value set. This instrument, the
Hartman Value Profile, is used by companies for initial hiring
assessments, team building/enhancement and individual growth planning. These
activities and resources are further explored within this website or you may
contact us for further discussion.
